The Choral Department at Mountain Ridge High School has just experienced a "perfect season". It began with having 48 events qualify for the state solo and ensemble festival. 41 events received superior scores and 16 of our solo singers medalled at state by receiving perfect scores. This is a 2023 record for the state of Utah! Every one of our small vocal ensembles received a perfect score, and our Madrigal Choir also received perfect scores from both of the state judges. They also received an invitation from one of the judges to perform at UVU along with their astounding collegiate choirs at a combined concert this October. Our Harmony Women's Choir, Men of Note Men's Choir and Legacy Women's Choir also received perfect scores at the Region Large Choir Festival in April.
Last week we took all our choirs on tour to Anaheim for a national choral festival through WorldStrides. We competed against schools from across the nation and received top honors! All five choral ensembles received Gold awards, with Harmony taking a Gold Second Place in the women's choir division, Legacy received a Gold First Place in that same division. The Men of Note received a Gold award, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble received a Gold award, and the Madrigals received a Gold First Place award. The Legacy Women, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Madrigal choirs each received an Adjudicator award (meaning they scored an average of over 95/100 points!), and the Madrigals also earned the award for highest scoring choir of the festival with an average score of 97! Their high scores combined with our Jazz and Legacy scores earned us the Choral Sweepstakes award. We also had three stellar soloists and a student conductor who each received Maestro awards for their incredible performances with their choirs. The trophies are on display at the school. Mr. DeHaan could not be more proud of his incredible students. Shiny trophies are nice, but the true reward is the time we spend together learning and growing to earn the awards! Thanks for representing our school.
